How Our Formula Works – Fast, Gentle, Effective

Ferric Subsulfate – Promotes rapid clotting by contracting blood vessels at the injury site, helping stop bleeding within seconds.

Bentonite Clay – Absorbs moisture and forms a physical barrier over minor wounds to shield them from dirt and irritation.

Platycladus orientalis Leaf Extract – A traditional Chinese herbal remedy known for its natural soothing properties; supports antimicrobial protection and reduces inflammation.

Ammonium Chloride – Helps balance pH for optimal powder performance and stability on skin.

Together, these ingredients work synergistically to deliver quick, reliable bleeding control—without sting or stress.

How to Safely Trim Your Dog’s Nails – Step by Step

pet first aidpet first aid

Step 1: Choose the Right Tools

Use sharp, pet-safe nail clippers (avoid dull blades or guillotine styles for large dogs). Have styptic powder nearby just in case.

Step 2: Find a Calm Setting

Trim in a quiet, comfortable place with good lighting. Gently hold your dog’s paw and help them stay relaxed with calm words and treats.

Step 3: Identify the Quick

For light-colored nails, avoid cutting into the pink area (the quick). For dark nails, trim small amounts at a time until you see a chalky white ring or a tiny dark dot at the center—then stop.

Step 4: Clip at an Angle

Trim nails at a 45° angle, slightly below the quick. Avoid deep, single cuts—use multiple small clips to stay safe.

Step 5: Stop Bleeding If It Happens

If you accidentally clip the quick, don’t panic. Apply styptic powder with light pressure for 5–10 seconds to stop the bleeding quickly.

Step 6: Praise and Repeat

Reward your dog after each paw to keep the experience positive. Trim every 2–4 weeks to maintain healthy nail length.

What to Do If You Trim Too Short – Stay Calm & Take Action

Step 1: Don’t Panic

Accidents happen—even to professionals. Your dog may yelp or bleed, but stay calm. Dogs can sense your stress, which may make the situation worse.

Step 2: Gently Restrain Your Dog

Comfort your pet with a soothing voice and prevent them from running around to avoid worsening the bleeding.

Step 3: Apply Direct Pressure

Use a clean tissue, gauze, or cloth to gently press on the bleeding nail for 30–60 seconds to help slow the blood flow.

Step 4: Use Styptic Powder Immediately

Dip the bleeding nail into styptic powder or apply it with a moistened cotton applicator. Hold light pressure for 5–10 seconds. Repeat if needed.

Step 5: Keep Your Dog Off Their Feet

After bleeding stops, encourage your dog to rest for 15–30 minutes. Avoid walking or rough play that could reopen the wound.

Step 6: Monitor & Comfort

Keep an eye on the area over the next day. If swelling, redness, or prolonged bleeding occurs, contact your vet.

A Lifesaver for Grooming My Mini Poodle
I can’t even count how many times I’ve nicked my mini poodle’s nails a little too short during trims, and every time it’s stressful for both of us. Having this styptic powder on hand has been such a relief. The moment I apply it, the bleeding stops within seconds, and my pup calms down right away. It gives me real peace of mind knowing I can handle accidents quickly without a trip to the vet. Works fast to stop the bleeding and is a great price for the size. What I love most is how gentle the formula is. It doesn’t sting, which is important because my dog is sensitive, and she never flinches when I use it. I also really appreciate that it’s made with safe, non-toxic ingredients and even includes herbal support that extra care in the formula shows. The container is generous in size and will last me ages. The scoop makes it easy to apply without mess, and the sealing lid keeps everything fresh between uses. It’s definitely become a must-have in my pet first aid kit, not just for grooming but also for little scratches she sometimes gets while playing outside. For anyone who trims their dog’s nails at home or just wants to be prepared for the unexpected, this is an absolute essential. It takes the panic out of those “oops” moments and makes grooming my poodle so much less stressful.

Stop the bleeding for any animal when clicking nails.
Dependent on the animal that you’re clicking nails for, this is a must-have… White animals may be easier to see the quick in the nail, but I have a couple of dogs AND alpacas that you can’t see the quick, so ensuring that you have something to stop the bleeding (if it happens), is a must-have. BTW… Animal nails bleed A LOT when clicked into the quick, so instead of ‘thinking’ that they’re bleeding to death, this stop the bleeding AND the visual of having to bury your pet! Either way, a good thing to have, even if you don’t need it, at least it there in case you do!
