Nourish your dog’s mind and help him think more like he did when he was younger with Purina Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+ Chicken & Rice Formula dry dog food. A dog’s brain begins to change how it metabolizes glucose around age 7, which can affect memory, learning, awareness or decision-making. Purina discovered that enhanced botanical oils can be used to provide an additional fuel source for the brain in dogs age 7+. When added to the daily diet of dogs 7 and older, these enhanced botanical oils promoted alertness and mental sharpness. Including chicken as the first ingredient, this senior dog food provides your dog with a high-quality source of protein. Omega-6 fatty acids and vitamin A promote healthy skin and a beautiful coat, while glucosamine and EPA, an omega-3 fatty acid, support your dog’s joint health and mobility. You can feel good about feeding him a formula designed to deliver top-tier, highly specialized nutrition.

    Worked for my dog
Bright Mind dog chow was suggested by our veterinarian for our aging dog—we found it made a difference and made her “sharper.”

    Great for 14+ dogs
Got this dog food for my senior dog who was 14 it was a great dog food for him for the last year and a half of his life he really benefited from the nutrition standpoint being he was an older dog. Although it is pricey, I do believe that Purina pro plan senior is great quality for your older dogs.

    Might help, definitely doesn’t hurt
Our 12-year-old boxer/mastiff mix is having some cognitive issues related to age, so our veterinarian recommended this food. He really likes the taste, and we think that it may be helping (along with some of the other supplements we’re trying). Also seems to have resolved some of the gas issues that he was having previously, so that is a big plus. Definitely worth a try if your senior dog is having problems with dementia-type symptoms. Picture included doesn’t really have anything to do with the food, just sharing our sweet old boy 🙂

Good Senior Dog Food for Most
I have had my three senior dogs on Pro Plan Savor 7+ for many years. On the recommendation of a friend, I upgraded to the “Bright Mind” food for all three–two small dogs and one boxer. I like that the Bright Mind does not have the “shredded” soft pieces that the Savor contains. My dogs don’t enjoy chewy bits anymore. So that alone was a plus. The boxer and one of the smaller dogs, who is diabetic) have done fine with the Bright Mind variety, though I can’t say I have seen the kind of marked improvements others describe–maybe because they were already on a Pro Plan diet or maybe they both have hearing and vision impairments and arthritis so they are just not going to gambol about. Still I am happy with the food and plan to keep using it for them. (I get the small breed variety for the diabetic Yorkie mix and regular for the boxer, which is still a small-size kibble.) The other smaller dog is a Pekingese mix, also around 13 years old, deaf, and with some respiratory and skin issues. We’ve never found the source of her conditions, so we try to keep her diet simple and treat the symptoms. I was hoping the Bright Mind might help with her skin issues–it did not, but they didn’t get worse either. What did happen was that this dog whose only strong suit had been good digestion/poop became constipated and developed a very hard stool. I thought it was a fluke at first, but we kept her on it for a few weeks, and she continued to struggle with her bowel movements, which had never been a problem before. So I switched her back to the Savor 7+/small breed, and she’s back to normal. I just hate having three different bags of dog food for three dogs! We also supplement all three with some canned food (ONE or Beyond), about a tablespoon of cooked ground turkey or chicken, and Cosequin in each meal, which has been their constant menu for several years. So PP Bright Mind is a good food, and it’s certainly going to be a great improvement if you’ve been feeding your dogs stuff like Pedigree, Beneful, Old Roy, or even regular Purina. It just may not be a huge difference if you’re already feeding a “premium” quality food. (I’d be interested to know if anyone else has experienced the constipation problem with this food.) Thank you for taking good care of your pets!

    Expensive but worth it
I know there was a review that said this is price gouging, but Chewy charges the same amount. It could be cheaper, Purina charged stores less. Yes, I can buy a 50-60 lb. Bag, but that would last my little (and senior, 14yo dog) for at least 18 months. Would drop my price to $2.48 (I think it was), but I’d need a much bigger container and a lot more space. Not to mention the food would go bad. Anyway, my dog happily eats this, and at 14, has a delicate digestive track, so I’m not changing. This was the first one among 5-6 we tried that she either wouldn’t eat, or upset her stomach enough for her to throw it up. So, we stick with this. Took the bag to our vet, who really liked the nutrient list, too. Even when our pupper isn’t feeling well, she’ll eat this with some cooked chicken and pumpkin on it.Bottom line, our dog loves it, and it was a challenge to find one she liked.

Less waste with our dog compared to other dog food products we’ve used.
I like the content of ingredients in this dog food and the fact that the total ingredients are geared to our eight year old dog, a Labrador, and there is no waste byproducts in the food or cheap fillers. Our previous dog was a very large Newfoundland and her manure waste was less than many of our friends dogs that were a hundred pounds, or more, lighter than her. She lived till she was over eight years old and her heart was struggling to pump because of fluid. It sounded like a washing machine sloshing through the soapy water. Many large dogs that work cattle like our Newfoundland did don’t live past 6 to 6.5 years. With our current 92 pound Labrador he is in perfect health at this time with no indication of breathing problems or muscle/joint problems. We are on a 7 week automatic refill program and being up in our 70’s we don’t have to go buy the food and haul it out of the store, into the Jeep, out of the Jeep, into the house. So one time moving this large bag is so much easier on my wore-out joints and the convenience of the auto-refill would be worth a lot more to me than it would be to a person that didn’t bale hay, haul feed, get up and down hundreds of times on the tractor in a typical day.

I currently use the Purina Pro Plan dog good for the large breed dog for my setters: 2 English, 1 Irish, and 1 Gordon (Scottish). The older English setter (14.4 yrs old) is the only female in the group. The Irish setter is 14.5 yrs old. I mix the Bright Mind formula in a ratio of 4:1, the 1 being the large breed formula. The 2 older dogs are enjoying the senior food and clean the bowl. This was not the case when I previously added some Origen original food. They are both still joyful and happy to go for walks even though they are slower than they used to be. The other 2 dogs are 4 yrs old and they enjoy the Bright Mind formula too, although they get the opposite ratio of 1 Bright Mind : 4 Large Breed. All good!

Purina Pro was recommended by my vet several years ago. I was paying for really expensive and what I thought was high quality food, turns out it was not. I tried Purina Pro, my dog actually ate it! You can rotate flavours so your pet doesn’t get bored. Know she is a “senior dog” but you wouldn’t know it! Best decision ever switching to this affordable, convenient food option. Comes right to my door and often goes on sale!

  12. Amazon Customer

This is quality dog food that the seller is selling at an over inflated price. I’m shocked that Amazon is allowing this considering the same product is advertised with a different seller at half the price on Amazon. My error in not paying attention to the quantity as it is dog food I have ordered previously from Amazon at a very fair price. The seller is unwilling to compensate and frankly I am shocked that Amazon allows this to occur.
