✅ Inexpensive alternative to Apple AirTag – NOT real-time
I was a little skeptical about ordering this HTAG device. I own several Apple AirTags and I was curious to know how this more budget-friendly device performed alongside the real thing. Set-up was fairly straight forward. I found it easy to pair the device with Apple’s “Find My” app, and from the app’s perspective, the device looks just like any of my other trackers.I keep an Apple AirTag in each of my cars. My darling spouse was about to leave on a cross-state road trip, so I placed the HTAG device alongside the Apple AirTag already in the vehicle (yes, she knows about the trackers 😊). I periodically checked her location and found the HTAG and Apple AirTag reported the same location, although sometime there was a difference in the time since the last reporting. For the most part, these HTAG devices seemed to work just like the Apple AirTag.✨ It’s important to note these devices are NOT “real time” GPS trackers. They leverage Apple’s “Find My” app, so as with the Apple AirTag, they must be in proximity to an iPhone to report location.👍 Likes: Lower price, relative to the real thing. Surprisingly similar performance to the Apple AirTag. Magnetic holder as a nice mounting alternative.😢 Not so much: The plastic housing makes me wonder if durability will be an issue. Not the “real time” tracker, as described (minus 1-star).Home MacGruber tip: If an AirTag, or other compatible Bluetooth tracker, is separated from its owner (you) and is detected moving with another iPhone user, the iPhone user will receive a notification saying “AirTag Found Moving With You”. This HTAG device DID notify my darling spouse 😊. I hope you found this review useful.

FALSE ADVERTISING
False advertising. These ARE NOT gps trackers. They use your linked cell phone to track whatever item you’re trying to track. Just stick with an AirTag as it’s way better quality. Definitely not what I was looking for or wanting.

Not real-time GPS tracking
Summary of my review if its too long for you to read:-Not live tracking-No monthly fee bc it operates through the Find My network on your iPhone (not for androids)-Bc it uses Find Me network, only connects through Bluetooth on apple devices passing by-Doesnt have much distance on it.—————I got this specifically because it said no monthly subscription and although looking kinda like Apple’s AirTag, I thought maybe it would actually track in real-time, unlike the AirTags. Although it is true, there is no monthly fee (because it connects to your Apples Find My network), it does not do any real-time GPS tracking and shouldn’t be listed as such.Although not an AirTag, it seems to work no differently than one. AirTags only work when another Apple device comes close enough AND has their Bluetooth on. Then it sends encrypted info to the Apple servers which then send that info decrypted to your Find Me network when requested (opening the app to see its last known location). If it ends up in a remote area or an area with no Apple devices passing by, its location won’t update for a long time, if at all. This is the opposite of “live tracking”.The claim of “live tracking GPS” on a device that works only with Apple’s Find My network (and doesn’t have a cellular modem and subscription) is misleading marketing.Ontop of that, the distance it required for another Apple device to connect to it is about the average length of a driveway, from a house to the street. In my opinion, thats a bit of a close proximity. Again, a device has to get that close for it to detect the tracker and be able to update its location.Thankfully, the vast majority of people nowadays have iPhones so although you cant track the location live, you should be able to see the location frequently enough. Then again, mine lost signal from my phone when a family member walked outside our front door while I was in the bedroom on the same floor so, I suppose someone stealing your car and hiding it in their garage wont be a good scenario for you because its connective range is even shorter through walls and such.Aside from that HUGE downfall, it does come with a rubberized housing that has two magnets on the sides to magnetically attach to anything metal. But I wouldn’t claim its waterproof because the housing has the hole in the back where you insert the tracker but this hole is not closeable. This is being marketed for the idea of putting it on your vehicle and if you do so on the outside/underneath, if its raining or your driving through puddles, I could see rain water trailing off the vehicle or splashing up and trickling right into the opening on the back.I also wouldn’t call these magnets super strong. No, this wont fall off your vehicle by hitting bumps but I am able to easily grab it with my fingers and pull it off. This is just because the metal inside the housing has to be strong enough to reach through the dense silicone areas to connect to metal. The silicone is well made but because its not super thin where these side magnets are, it makes it seem not so strong. Especially if you use the stickable pieces of metal they include for the purpose of attaching this to something that doesnt have any metal. You can peel the paper backing off to stick them on something thats not metal, then magnetically attach the housing with the tracker inside.Would I recommend this? Depends on if you really want the real-time GPS tracking or not. If you do, look into actual GPS trackers.
