Outstanding for Astronomy, but Not Safe as a toy!
I’ve been using this green laser pointer for astronomy, and it’s genuinely outstanding. The patterns it projects, with the starlight cap, are breathtaking. Yet, the standout feature is definitly its visibility at night. Pointing at stars, the beam is so clear and impressive. It feels solid in the hand and has a high quality feel.The built-in USB charging is a fantastic feature, making it convenient to recharge almost anywhere. However, I do wish the battery was user-serviceable. There might be times when I’m away from an outlet, and swapping batteries would be more practical than waiting for a charge.Despite its high-quality build and features, I have a significant concern. Labeling this as a “cat toy” is misleading and potentially dangerous given its power. It’s crucial to be aware of the risks, such as causing instant eye damage and the legal implications of pointing it at airplanes.In summary, it’s an excellent tool for astronomy and outdoor activities, but it’s essential to handle it responsibly. It’s powerful and not a toy.

Caution–High Power Laser
I am surprised to find this laser is quite powerful, I’m guessing 30-50mW, although it is labelled “Class III / 5000mW”. 5000mW (5W) would easily burn paper etc., which this instrument does not. Note that 50mW (my guess, not measurement) is 10x the maximum 5mW Class 3R (typical office laser pointer), but it would be 1/10 the 500mW Class 3B max. (a 5000mW laser would be Class 4, capable of eye damage even just looking at a projected spot!) But it is very bright, a bit alarmingly so, and though I have not tried it, it looks like it would perform well as an astronomy pointer. While the box says “astronomy, cats, dogs”, the label on the laser itself says “banned direct eyes” and “forbid children / minors are prohibited from use”. I would not recommend using it for office presentations, where it would be distractingly bright. My guess (ONLY A GUESS) is that, while purposely directing the beam into the eye for more than a moment might cause permanent damage, the typical flash across the eye in use would only leave a temporary “flashbulb spot” if any. I’ll probably let the grandkids play with the cat with it, after instructing them to not purposely target any faces, feline or human. It comes with a removable diffraction grating filter collar, that scatters the light into a numerous spot pattern; the higher power laser makes this decorative function effective, where a 5mW laser would only make a very dim pattern. The USB 1.1 charging port beats the heck out of changing AA batteries every time the grandkids visit. The case is pleasingly solid machined metal, while the instrument would be too large and heavy for shirt pocket transport.

Not a Safe Device for Pets or Casual Use!!!!
I recently purchased this laser pointer, and while it may seem like a casual laser pointer to be used for cats and dogs, it’s important to understand this is not a safe device those usesThe label lists a maximum output power of <5000mW (5 watts) at 532nm, which is a highly visible green wavelength. That is far beyond what is typically considered safe for public use. For reference, most laser pointers legally sold for presentations or general use are limited to 5mW or less. Anything beyond that enters the territory of industrial, scientific, or military-grade devices.This laser appears to be categorized as a Class III product, but the listed power level would suggest it’s actually Class 4 — the most hazardous category, capable of causing immediate and permanent eye injury, even from reflections. The labeling is potentially misleading and underplays the risk involved.

Filter is a waste
Works great as a laser pointer but I had trouble getting it to that part of laser. It has a filter that projects the different designs. I thought the designs projected were small. It projects a design that is very wide. Around 3 feet around from only 10 feet. I thought the filter would have a setting for the laser pointer but it didn’t. I had to remove the filter to have access to just the laser pointer. Kinda makes the filter unusable because there’s no place to store it on the pen unless you just leave it on and each time you want to use the pointer part then have to revmove the filter.
